About The Contest

Who is running this contest?

The International DB2 Users Group (IDUG) is the worldwide sponsor of the contest. IDUG is an independent, non-profit organization run by volunteers that are DB2 users around the world.

For the XML contest, IDUG has chosen IBM’s DB2 with pureXML technology as the platform on which participants will build their entries. DB2 is a premier IBM hybrid data server that stores information in various formats, including XML, and that can manage information with top-notch reliability, availability and scalability.  IDUG's commitment to encouraging top technological innovations, and IBM's commitment to providing that top technology, have come together in this IDUG-sponsored contest that IBM whole-heartedly supports.

For whom is this contest?

You might ask what exactly do IDUG, DB2, pureXML, college students and database developers have in common?   Why, the "Search for the XML Superstar" contest, of course!

The "Search for the XML Superstar" contest is a great way for developers and students alike to showcase their creativity and innovation, and to win fabulous prizes!   Enter the contest, and see if you have what it takes to become the next XML Superstar.

The contest is open to university students and professional developers. You do not need any previous database or XML experience to participate. Start with the video or query contests and find out how quickly you can be up and running on a pureXML platform.

Why should I participate?

Cool prizes, for starters! You could win cool gadgets like iPods, USB keys or laptops by participating in one or more of the contests. You could also qualify for the XML Grand Master prize by inviting your friends to participate and by rating videos or gadgets posted by other participants.

In addition, there is a lot of honor at stake here. By winning, you are not only gaining a great talking point on your resume but also achieving greatness amongst your university or company. There may be some internship or employment opportunities in it for you. In some countries, IBM may be able to offer a visit to a software lab or a lunch with an executive. In addition, you may be eligible for some student programs, so stay tuned.
